Happy New Year 2012
And welcome back to the fast track...
After the first week or two of the new year, no one really says "happy new year" any more.
But the year is still new. And the faithfulness of God and our life in Christ is new every morning...
[Isaiah 33:2, Lamentations 3:21]
Seems like last year at this time it was pretty much the same for many folks;
the same New Year's resolutions -
"lose wait,
"exercise more,
"be nicer to my neighbors,
"spend less time on the internet,
"spend more time with family," etc, etc.
As those who name the name of Christ in truth, I believe we all desire ways to spend more time with the Lord this year.
More time, more "quality time," with the Lord Jesus this year:
more time spent before our Heavenly Father with Bibles open, hearts open, minds open to His leading and calling for this and every coming day.
As we consider all that 2012 will hold:
great tests of our citizenship, a critical national election, the barrage of campaign information and misinformation -
Let us not forget the group of people among us who are looking ahead to a very busy year themselves - our Military.
Our servicemen and women are also interested in the outcome of the election, and the budget process, and the same things that the rest of us are,
but with several very significant differences:
¨ they wear the cloth of our Nation;
¨ they have the most essential job in any nation,
¨ they face the greatest personal threats,
¨ they are expected to willingly and courageously assume the greatest personal risks,
¨ they are expected to absorb the greatest cuts in their budget,
¨ they are expected to do more with less in a life-and-death business,
¨ they will go where our leaders send them,
¨ they need our support;
¨ they need - above all - Jesus as Lord and Savior.
We, the Haney Family and Missions to Military, are dedicated to helping them to meet the Lord.
Very close to Missions to Military in Jacksonville, Florida are tens of thousands of servicemen and their families, most of whom do not have an abiding and growing faith and life in Christ.
We are here - firmly, strategically, thoughtfully, lovingly - to help those of our military come to faith and take their stand in this New Year for Christ.
[Galatians 5:1, Philippians 1:27]
I pray that for this New Year, the Lord will move in all of our hearts to look afresh at how we might live and share our faith in our wonderful Savior again this year.
Our prayer is that - with all of the many other things that demand our time and attention and energy -
We will take our charge in the Great Commission to reach others for Christ and to make disciples of all.
Thank you for reading our Devotion.
Thank you for praying for us.
Thank you for giving.
(Just last month,
we added new supporters).
Thank you in advance for considering how you and your church might be able to support Missions to Military in His glorious work.
Good soldiers of Jesus Christ,
Bill & Anne & Family
